D3 College Players who made it to the Majors/MLB

Every year, we have a bunch of 17u and 16u players who are 100% focused on only playing “D1” college ball.  THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE!!!  We/me (the Bombers staff and coaches) are 100% focused on helping players use their baseball skills to assist them in gaining admission into the BEST ACADEMIC school possible.  That is what really matters.  If you do get into a great college and also happen to be recruited to play on their varsity baseball roster – it’s a home run!  BUT if you get into a great college  and you are NOT recruited for the varsity team, you can still tryout out for their varsity team or play club ball at the school – it’s still a home run because you are at a great college – and graduation from that school will benefit you the rest of your life.

Regarding the different divisions in college – D1, D2, D3 – IT DOES NOT MATTER WHERE YOU PLAY BECAUSE IF YOU ARE TALENTED AND WANT TO GO ON TO THE PRO LEVEL, THE PRO SCOUTS WILL FIND YOU!!  Below is a link to an article of some current MLB players who came from D3 colleges.  There are many D3 players now, many in the past and there will be many more in the future.  FOCUS ON COLLEGES WITH THE BEST ACADEMICS AND PERSONAL FIT FOR YOU.  THE DIVISION YOU PLAY IF DOES NOT MATTER.  YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY GET ONTO THE FIELD AND PLAY ASAP IF YOU CAN AND THAT MAY MEAN PLAYING AT A D3 OR D2 SCHOOL.  Being on a D1 roster but never or rarely playing is not how you want to spend 4 years of your time.

The NESCAC (New England Small College Athletic Conference) division is full of excellent academic institutions (with many members of NESCAC colleges part of a group of strong academic schools known as the “Little Ivies”).  NESCAC schools are  all D3 schools that play excellent, competitive, high end college baseball.  Many NESCAC schools can compete against and defeat many D1 programs.  The quality of play in many D3 programs is excellent.  Don’t get fooled and think otherwise.
