NY Mets Northeast Scout Tom Clark met with several Bombers teams on 7/15/21 in Boston at the New England World Series Tournament. Tom is responsible for evaluating and recruiting HS Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors; and also College Freshmen and Sophomores. He spoke for over an hour and had a Q&A afterwards on what he and other professional scouts look for in young players. Tom provided everyone tips and advice on how to get noticed. He explained the professional grading scale of ranking points that go from 20 to 80 and where he typically ranks the really good young players on their “5 Tools”. Finally he explained how important the “intangibles” are to all talent evaluators such as baseball IQ, hustle, commitment to the game, ability to handle failure, and interactions observed with teammates, coaches, umpires and parents. This was a great event and we will be setting up more like this going forward. A big thank you to Tom Clark for spending the time with our Bombers players and coaches.
